MAYA SOLELI ASTABIE

IFBB Pro | 2020 Olympian

About

My name is Maya Astabie, and I am an IFBB Bikini Pro athlete based in San Francisco, California. At my core, I believe we’re here to give light and receive light from others. While bodybuilding has played a huge role in shaping who I am, the greatest gift it has given me has never been a placing, title, or trophy. It’s the people I’ve met, the lessons I’ve learned, and the opportunity to positively impact others while pursuing my own potential. If there’s one thing I hope to be remembered for, it’s the example I set through my actions, the impact I had on the people around me, and the reminder that we’re all capable of more than we think when we’re willing to stay patient, stay humble, and keep showing up. I started competing in 2018, earned my IFBB Pro Card in 2019, and made my Bikini Olympia debut in 2020 after a 10-show professional season that ended with my first Olympia qualification. That season taught me a lesson that has stayed with me ever since: we are not defined by one placing, one setback, or one moment. We are defined by how we respond, how we keep showing up, and the consistency we bring to the things that matter most. Since then, I’ve taken longer improvement seasons throughout my career because I wanted to make sure that when I stepped back on stage, I truly delivered on the feedback I had been given. Those years weren’t just spent building my physique. They were also spent building a life I love through my career in pharmaceutical marketing, meaningful relationships, travel, and experiences that have shaped me both on and off the stage. My most recent season was a reflection of that mindset. After years of trusting the process, I competed in seven IFBB Pro shows, earning consistent top callout placings and finishing as high as 2nd at Legion Sports Fest. More importantly, this season validated what I had been working toward for years. The improvements were there, the feedback had been addressed, and I proved to myself that patience and persistence are always worth it. Throughout my professional career, I’ve earned five IFBB Pro runner-up finishes, including three during my rookie season, one during my 2023 comeback season, and another during my most recent competitive run. I am incredibly grateful for what I have accomplished, but I would be lying if I said I was satisfied. Earning my first professional win is a goal I have wanted for a long time, and one I am no longer afraid to say out loud. At the same time, bodybuilding has taught me that the best things in life are worth working and waiting for. I know I am more than any one placing, and I hope my impact extends far beyond anything I accomplish on stage. But I also believe that when that first pro win comes, it will mean so much more because of everything it took to get there. The years of feedback, the close finishes, the lessons learned, and the faith I’ve continued to build in myself will make it that much more meaningful. As I head into my next improvement season, the goal isn’t to reinvent the wheel. The foundation is there. My focus is on refinement: adding density, improving core control, polishing my presentation, and continuing to elevate the details that can make a big difference on stage. I’m excited to keep building and look forward to bringing my best package yet when I return to competition in 2027. Outside of bodybuilding, I work in pharmaceutical marketing and love building a life that feels just as fulfilling off the stage as it does on it. You’ll usually find me biking around San Francisco, exploring a new neighborhood, spending time in the sun, planning my next trip, trying a new restaurant, browsing vintage jewelry, hunting for the perfect flat white or chocolate chip cookie, searching for my next great vintage find, or making memories with the people I care about most. I also love live music and music festivals, especially when I get to dance the night away with my best friends.
