Every so often, a young athlete arrives with the kind of potential that makes you stop and think, “This could be someone special.”

Luca Reger is one of those athletes.

Fresh off his latest victory, the German Classic Physique star has now competed in 13 IFBB Pro League shows, winning 4 of them. On paper, that’s an impressive record.

Then you remember one thing. He’s only 24 years old.

In a recent interview with BTSTV, Luca made a bold statement: he believes one day he can win the Olympia.

Some may hear that as confidence. I hear it as ambition backed by evidence.

Ahead of the Curve

Take Chris Bumstead out of the conversation for a moment. CBum was an exception to almost every rule.

For the vast majority of today’s top Classic Physique stars, 24 was the age they were still chasing an IFBB Pro card or just beginning to find their feet as professionals. Luca is already miles ahead of that timeline.

At just 24, he has accumulated 13 professional contests, 4 Pro victories and invaluable experience against some of the best athletes on the planet.

That isn’t normal. It’s the kind of foundation that careers are built upon.

The Wins Tell One Story…

4 Pro wins is an achievement in itself.

Yes, they’ve all come in Europe. Yes, two have come on home soil in Germany. But those victories aren’t the destination - they’re the foundation.

Every champion starts somewhere, and collecting wins builds confidence, momentum and the understanding of how to consistently perform under pressure.

…But The Losses Tell an Even Bigger One

Sometimes you learn more from who you’ve lost to than who you’ve beaten. Luca’s résumé away from his victories is arguably even more impressive.

He finished:

  • 2nd in Dubai to Michael Daboul, a multiple-time Olympia top-10 finisher.
  • 2nd in Spain (2024) to Josema, who finished fifth at the Olympia last year.
  • 7th at the New York Pro.
  • 8th at the Pittsburgh Pro, battling against line-ups stacked with four and five Top-15 Olympians.

Read that again. 24 years old. Most athletes don’t gain that level of elite-stage experience until years later in their careers.

Luca is accumulating it now. That experience cannot be taught.

The Best Is Yet to Come

Perhaps the most exciting part is that Luca isn’t close to his finished product.

He still has room to grow. By his own estimation, he has 6-10 pounds available before reaching his Classic Physique weight cap, provided he continues bringing the razor-sharp conditioning needed to compete with the world’s elite.

That combination is frightening. More muscle. Better condition. More experience. And all while entering what should be the prime years of his career.

The Neil Hill Effect

Another fascinating development is his recent partnership with legendary coach Neil Hill.

Hill’s résumé speaks for itself.

From Flex Lewis to Mike Sommerfeld, Brandon Hendrickson and numerous other champions, Hill has repeatedly demonstrated an ability to take already talented athletes and elevate them to world-class status.

The partnership is only around a month old. The results? 2 Pro victories already.

That’s no criticism of Luca’s previous coaching setup - far from it. But Luca clearly believed Neil Hill could unlock another level. So far, it’s difficult to argue against that decision.

What’s Next?

For me, the next milestone is clear. A place inside the Top 15 at the Olympia.

For Luca? That’s not enough. He wants to stand on the Olympia finals stage as a Top 10 athlete in the world.

And honestly…

The opportunity is there.

With Josema moving into the Open division, Logan Franklin sitting out this season, and the possibility that athletes like Matt Greggo and Michael Daboul won’t be in this year’s Olympia lineup, the door is opening.

The competition will still be fierce. But every year, opportunities emerge for someone ready to seize them. We’ve seen it time after time.

Don’t Bet Against Him

Predicting future Olympia champions is always dangerous. Bodybuilding careers are long, unpredictable and filled with obstacles.

But when you combine exceptional genetics, four Pro wins by the age of 24, experience against the world’s elite, room to grow physically and the guidance of one of bodybuilding’s greatest coaches, it’s easy to understand why so many people are excited about Luca Reger.

But one thing feels increasingly certain.

Luca Reger isn’t just one of Classic Physique’s brightest young talents. He could very well be one of the division’s next superstars.
