Few contests at the Empro Classic generated as much anticipation as the 212 showdown between Angel Calderón and Jose Maria Mete Bueriberi, and thankfully for bodybuilding fans, the battle more than lived up to expectations.
With a packed Spanish crowd creating an electric atmosphere throughout the event, the stage was set for a memorable contest between two of the division’s most exciting competitors. In the end, it was Angel Calderón who emerged victorious, sending the predominantly Spanish audience into celebration as their hometown hero claimed one of the biggest wins of his recent career.
From the moment Angel stepped onto the stage, the energy inside the venue was impossible to ignore. The crowd erupted with every pose, every comparison, and every callout involving the Spanish star. Yet the support wasn’t reserved solely for the eventual winner. Jose Maria Mete Bueriberi also received a tremendous reception, with fans clearly appreciating the quality of the battle unfolding before them.
It was the type of contest that reminded everyone why the 212 division continues to be one of the most exciting categories in professional bodybuilding. Two elite competitors, both bringing impressive physiques and refusing to give an inch during comparisons, created a spectacle that had the audience fully invested from start to finish.
What ultimately separated Angel from the rest of the field was the level of refinement he brought to the stage. His conditioning was exceptional, displaying the sharpness and detail that have become trademarks of his physique. Muscle separation was evident throughout every pose, and his presentation left very little for judges to criticize.
In truth, it was difficult to identify any significant weaknesses in the package Angel presented. He combined fullness with conditioning, maintained excellent shape throughout the prejudging and finals, and consistently looked in control during comparisons. Against a lineup filled with quality competitors, he delivered exactly what was required to secure the title.
While Angel deservedly took the victory, Jose Maria Mete Bueriberi further strengthened his reputation as one of the division’s brightest talents. He stood toe-to-toe with one of the category’s most established names and proved he belongs in these conversations.
Behind the top two, South Africa’s Muzi Maluleke secured third place with a performance that generated plenty of discussion among fans and observers.
Muzi brought one of his strongest looks to date, displaying excellent conditioning, balance, and stage presence. In fact, some spectators felt he may have done enough to climb even higher in the standings. Such was the quality of his physique that arguments could certainly be made for him challenging further up the leaderboard.
Regardless of where opinions fall, there is little doubt that Muzi delivered a standout performance and continues to establish himself as a serious competitor within the division. If he can continue refining his package, bigger placings may not be far away.
Italy’s Giuseppe Christian Zagarella rounded out the top four after another solid showing. Giuseppe showcased impressive muscle maturity and conditioning, remaining competitive throughout the comparisons in a highly stacked lineup. Although he ultimately fell short of the podium positions, his performance reinforced his ability to consistently challenge at the professional level.
Completing the top five was Brazil’s Elivelton Morais, who once again demonstrated why he remains a respected name within the division. Facing a deep field packed with talent, Morais held his own and secured another respectable placing against some of the best 212 competitors currently competing on the professional circuit.
Ultimately, however, the story of the day belonged to Angel Calderón.
Competing in front of a passionate home crowd can often bring additional pressure, but Angel appeared to thrive on the support. Every pose was met with thunderous applause, every comparison generated excitement, and when the final result was announced, the reaction inside the venue said everything.
The Spanish fans came hoping to witness a victory from one of their own, and Angel delivered in emphatic fashion.
The Empro Classic 212 division promised fireworks heading into the weekend, and it certainly delivered. Elivelton and Jose produced a battle worthy of the occasion, Muzi continued his rise with an outstanding performance, and the depth throughout the lineup highlighted the incredible strength of the modern 212 division.
If this contest was any indication of what’s to come, bodybuilding fans should be excited about the future of the category.
